The combination of miso powder and broth provides a depth and spiciness that's not always easy to achieve with conventional seasonings. Tomatoes and mushrooms naturally contain glutamic acid, just like miso, and this enhances the flavor. This is why miso is also referred to as a rounded or "5-flavored" dish, or umami.
